Keep Sidney Beautiful works to reduce litter, recycle, and beautify our community. Through each one of these components we strive to work hard to make our community a better place. Each one of these missions is achieved through hard work, volunteering, and community involvement.
Education is significant to spreading awareness. Unfortunately, some people don’t fully understand the impact of litter. Not only do we want to educate the adults, we also need to educate the children. The children are our future and educating them is crucial to the betterment of our towns. We want to bring more sustainable recycling and the way to do it is through education. Our plan is to bring education on these subjects to all schools in our county. We want to educate on how imperative it is to reduce, reuse and recycle. We have started bringing paper recycling to the schools that aren’t already doing it. The schools that don’t have readily available recycle bins, our organization has provided them. We want to eventually expand that and provide more opportunities for them to recycle other materials. We are going directly into the schools and holding classes for the students on recycling. On top of all that, we want to make it fun and interesting! We will host recycling drives for clothing and also forming clubs to get as many as we can involved.
Reducing litter is key to keeping our communities safe and clean. Throughout spring to fall we regularly host cleanups in our communities. We target as many different businesses as we can to be involved with these cleanups. The litter is a problem for everyone so we work towards everyone being a part of the solution. Enough of an impact is made that individuals will even reach out to us first wanting to volunteer! We easily pick up around 100 pounds every cleanup. It’s truly astonishing how much litter there is in our small towns. We work diligently to keep our towns as clean as we can. We target our efforts everywhere so our residents know we care about the entirety of our towns. This wouldn’t be possible without our wonderful and dedicated volunteers who deeply care for our planet and the future generations.
The last component our organization focuses on is beautifying our county. Our cleanups contribute toward that but also hosting a variety of events. We are in the works planning “A Great Trash Race’ in late spring of 2024. It will be a whole day dedicated to picking up trash and educating our townsfolk about the importance of reducing litter and recycling. We are determined to make Keep Sidney Beautiful known for this yearly event. Although this will be our largest event, we do annual electronic recycling along with quarterly shred and battery recycling events as well. For the first time ever we hosted ‘Poetry Night’ and will continue so on a monthly basis. Beautifying our community isn’t only through recycling and reducing litter. Bringing the residents of our small towns together to all enjoy themselves is important. A great example of this is when we host our monthly ‘Yard of the Month’. This is where different homeowners enter a friendly and fun competition of decorating their yards. The community votes on the best one and we award the winner the opportunity to host our Yard of the Month sign for all to see. Events like these are a great way to bring everyone closer. We are all in this together and forming strong bonds is pivotal for our future. We are aiming to bring other, consistent events as well.
Keep Sidney deeply cares for its community. Through the use of grants we have accomplished many feats. We will continue to work intently to raise money and write grants to bring even more recycling, education, and beautification to our wonderful towns. Every dollar donated to our non profit organization is a dollar going back into the community. Our planet is a home shared by all and we want to contribute toward making it cleaner for everyone.
